Michigan Avenue Past

This building is a holy shrine for me, and others so it seems. Here, on Michigan Avenue between Livernois and Junction, is where Juan and Eva Graullera served rabbit, mutton and paella every Saturday to a packed building of diners. Most of us agreed to call in our reservations and arrive all at more or less the same time. One seating.

We brought our own wine. Many diners carries large coolers filled with bottles. I enjoyed my first taste of Pesquera here.

Chile en Nogada

El Barzon's chile en nogada is a traditional Poblano dish. It defies known limits of gastronomic delight. This is why I work there two nights a week.

I find that the subtle interlaced flavors of pears, nuts and pork work best with a glass or two of 2007 Macon Vire-Clesse from Domaine de Roally.

Friends, what have you been eating?

The amazing won't stop

I drove home tonight past Donovan's pub. Then I remembered some friends were meeting there, so I turned around. When I walked in I heard an amazing and mysteriously familiar live folk music. It was Sixto Rodriquez playing Dylan medleys and originals.

So many amazing things are happening, I can't quite keep up with the blog. 8 days in a row now. When it ends I'll report more.
